Oh Brother where art thou – 6 of the best Monk Shoes by Marcus Burns

What a weird name for a shoe your probably thinking? Double monk strap. Well yes there is reason behind the strange name and it dates back centuries from when monks in Europe wanted more protective footwear than the honest Jesus sandals they normally wore gave them, the monkshoe was hard wearing and long lasting, making it a perfect choice as a work shoe. For centuries now the shoe has grown and declined in the style ranks but 2014 has certainly seen the double monk become an essential in every dapper chaps wardrobe the perfect meeting point between both smart- casual dress codes and everyday work wear. Here are six of the best double monks you can get hands (well feet) on.

Get on your horse and ride off into the sunset – 6 of the best Western Shirts

image“A man’s got to have a code, a creed to live by.” – The late and great Mr John Wayne. Now there never was a greater cowboy of the silver screen then the inimitable big John Wayne whether it was  Fort Apache, El Dorado, Rio Grande or True Grit you didn’t mess with this man and if your were stupid enough to do so, you could expect one thing, Trouble.

The look of the traditional Cowboy whether it be the Marlboro Man, the classic American dream manifested in a check shirt and denim jeans all summed up in Marion Mitchell Morrison, otherwise known as John Wayne, this look is a timeless masculine theme. Epitomising this great trend has to be the Western shirt or Cowboy shirt, which so easily looks great with a pair of jeans or cords as it does giving a less formal edge to the humble suit.

As always we are here to advise you on 6 of the very best that are currently available to you, well right now.

A great example of a classic plaid Western shirt but there is nothing Traditional about this brand, no siree, ohh it True Religion by the way.

Yipee ka yeah ! This be one of the routenest, tootenets finest cowboy shirts around this then parts and is available from French Connection.

There is no disputing the fact that Renzo Rosso, his new Creative Director, Nicola Formichetti and those there guys over at Diesel are Masters are producing Classics with a Modern twist.

Like a good single breasted black suit, every man should have a decent Chambray shirt at his disposal And they don’t come much better then this example by Polo Ralph Lauren.

Now this great lil shirt also comes in a gold colour way but I thought if you are going to invest in a shirt of this nature, you probably want to tone things down somewhat. It’s a brilliantly literal interpretation of the Cowboy shirt and is from no other then TOPMAN.

To finish this post we’ve gone for a more versatile shirt this time by G-Star so whether your home on the range or just plain home, this ticks many of the boxes with this trend.

I wish it would Rain – Ideal wet weather attire

The Winter of 2013/14 will be pretty much remembered for its weather, not only did we see the town of Hell Freeze over in Michigan, USA , but it will also go down in history as the wettest season we’ve ever seen, since records began. At some point over the last few weeks/months, you must have got soaked to the skin and so it got us to thinking about ways we can help you beloved reader keeping that dapper exterior and keep the drowned rat look totally at bay.  So here are a couple of the better water resistant apparel money can buy.

SWIMS, the Norwegian waterproof specialists, have introduced the Luca Sneaker, a comfortable shoe, featuring a myriad of fabric technology to tackle any weather condition including waterfriendly materials and breathable nylon all with an unmistakeable SWIMS edge.

This brilliant British Woodland Camouflage City Gent Umbrella with Malacca Wood handle and Beech Wood shaft by London Undercover, not only will keep you dry in the event of a downpour but will ensure your stylish stakes are maintained in the urban jungle.

The story of K-Way began in Paris, 1965. Leon-Claude Duhamel observed, one rainy day, attentively as people rush about in soaking wet clothing.  It was this this very day that K-Way was born: a lightweight, completely waterproof jacket that can be folded away into a small hip bag.

This great compact Gents Umbrella from Marks & Spencer is ideal for throwing into your bag and forgetting about it right until you really it. Plus at the price it is, if like me, during the recent London Collections:Men where I managed to lose three, yes three, umbrellas over three days, it isn’t the end of the world.

There is nothing worse then having important stuff in your bag, you know vital documents, your mobile ohhh and maybe your lunch and you get caught out in a deluge ! No one like wet documents but even more nobody likes soggy sandwiches. Well Watershed have the answer for you, used by the likes of the US Military, their bags are completely  watertight, so ensuring soggy sandwiches are a thing of the past. Ohhh and your documents stay safe and dry.

We couldn’t cover wet weather gear, without mentioning the next brand as Mackintosh and their ever essential raincoats are to rainy day what fish is to chips. The traditional Mackintosh or Mac as it’s commonly worked its way into our language as, celebrates it’s 190th anniversary this year. Wonder how many people can thank Mackintosh for keeping them dry over the years ?

6 of the best Designer Trainers by Dominic Heron-Sturt

There was time when style boundaries were very clear cut and definite, casual wear was casual and formal attire was, well formal and the same could very much be said for designer brands and sports wear and never the twain should meet. Then some years ago we started to see the likes of  Y3 a collaboration by Yohji Yamamoto and Adidas or Jil Sander for Puma. Then we saw designer brands like Gucci venture in traditional sportswear territory and producing great looking sneakers, giving these Designer/ Sportwear hybrids a run for their money.

Nowadays, this sort of collection is common place from Jeremy Scott for Adidas to John Varvatos for Converse. In fact even the team GB’s kit for the 2013 London Olympics was designed in collaboration with Stella McCartney and Adidas. So we’ve looked at some of the best Designer interpretations of Sportwear trainers around on the market at the moment. Check em out –
